World of Tile: Tanked Michael makes a passing reference to me on his blog: "I've only been defeated by one person in one-on-one Scrabble (Pal Janet [Rosen] and I came in second out of three pairs a week ago, which I don't consider a personal defeat)." He and Janet lost that game to me and Todd (the third pair, lagging behind Michael and Janet by a single point, was Jon Blackwell and Jamie Foehl). I think you deserve to know what Michael said when Jon noted that, while his own team lost, Michael too was defeated.
"I don't consider it a defeat," Michael said hurriedly. He looked to Todd. "Do you consider it a defeat?"
Todd's reply was swift and with a straight face: "Only in the sense that you didn't win."
"That's what I mean," Michael agreed.
