Blecch 'Sabbath'

The Children's Defense Fund yesterday began its annual PR campaign for its "Children's Sabbaths"—a program whereby it engages religious congregations in promoting its agenda on the Lord's Day. My favorite example of how they do this is the one mentioned in the Children's Sabbaths Introductory Letter (PDF file) about a church's getting children to "trick or treat for UNICEF." I'm not sure which I find more offensive—that the CDF is getting a church to sponsor a trick-or-treat, or that the event benefits UNICEF.

If your church, synagogue, mosque, or Baha'i temple is considering participating in the Children's Sabbaths, you may want to read what the American Life League has to say about the CDF.
