Robert Fastiggi and I answer the question: "Has Pope Francis changed Church teaching on same-sex civil unions?"

I'm grateful to Where Peter Is for giving Sacred Heart Major Seminary professor Robert Fastiggi and myself the opportunity to comment on Pope Francis's recently publicized remarks concerning legal protections for same-sex couples. In "Has Pope Francis changed Church teaching on same-sex civil unions?", Dr. Fastiggi and I show how the media has sensationalized the pope's comments. We also examine Francis's words within the context of previous magisterial teachings and draw the distinctions necessary to demonstrate that his introduction of a new pastoral approach does not constitute a theological or doctrinal novelty. In other words, the pope is Catholic!
